Hotel Santa Isabel *****

Located near El Templete, where the very first religious mass was held upon foundation of the city, this 5 star hotel combines the modern offers with a rich colonial style. Referred to many as the grandest of Old Havana’s hotels, it stands on the eastern side of the Plaza de Armas, Havana’s earliest and most beautiful colonial square. Originally built in the 18th century as a residence for the Countess of San Juan de Jaruco, it was later acquired by the Count of Santovenia, whose initials still mark the balcony iron rails. It was restored to become a hotel in 1867, making it the favorite place for merchants, artists, scientists and illustrious travellers passing through the capital city. The Santa Isabel courtyard is full of plants and with echoes of gentle splashing from its central fountain, and the mahogany and leather chairs are more than comfortable. It offers 27 rooms, 10 of which are suites with all the luxury you would expect from a 5 star hotel. From the terrace you can enjoy the sight of the city. The palace has been decorated with unique and original masterpieces from some of the best known Cuban artists.
